Barnyard Banter

Hi Friends!

Denise Fleming, beloved author & illustrator of many award winning books for children. One of the things I really like about her illustrations is the process she uses: paper making & collage. I bet you could make some super animal sounds while listening to her book Barnyard Banter. Put on a smile & give your best 'quack' & 'oink' & 'mooooooo.'

This week, let's join Ms. Suzy as she reads The Cow Loves Cookies by Karma Wilson. Sing along & see which animals come to visit Ms. Suzy in the second video:

Still looking for more farm animal fun? In this classic, Mister Rogers visits the Dairy Farm here outside of Pittsburgh. Or visit the library's online catalog for a list of great farm books.

Farmers are responsible for caring for the animals & plants we eat. There are even some farmers who care for helpful insects such as ladybugs, bees & worms! PBS Parents has put together a series of farm to table recipes that are great for the whole famliy to enjoy.

Do you know what my favorite farm animal is? It is an herbivore with four legs. hmmmm....did you guess?

Here's another clue: The animal can give milk, meat & wool to the farmer. Still not sure?

This animal's name starts with the "shhhh" sound & ends with "p" like the word "peep."

Ok, one last clue:

Did you figure it out? Yes! My favorite farm animal is the loveable, wonderful Sheep! And what is a baby sheep called? Yes! They are called lambs. Now, some people like to "count sheep" before they go to sleep. My family likes to play a rhyming game, let's start with SHEEP & SLEEP. Can you think of other things that rhyme? CAT & HAT or BUG & RUG or GLUM & PLUM & GRULKMUM (yes, it's totally ok to use nonsense words in this game, as long as it rhymes).

So now that we have turned on the silly button, it's time for a get-stuck-in-your-head song; one that will change your world & hopefully make you laugh at random times just thinking about it:

So, let it all go guys & have a wonderful wonderful moment together with someone special.

Toodleloo, Kangaroos!
